Alice Glass exploded to fame in 2004 when she became the lead vocalist for the electronic duo Crystal Castles. Alice Glass was born Margaret Osborn on 23 August 1988 in Toronto, Ontario. Her family was Catholic, attending parochial school from the age of junior high. She fled her home at 15 to start the punk group Fetus Fatale, and lived in a squat neighborhood with punks. She was introduced to Ethan Kath, former bassist of Kill Cheerleader, in Toronto. Incredulous by her performance with Fetus Fatale, he gifted her CD-Rs that contained 60 instrumental demos, including five of which she composed vocals for. Then, in December of 2003, the duo began working on the idea that would later become Crystal Castles. The name was derived from a pin that she found and whose name was Alice and Hopey Glass (a character from Love and Rockets), Alice Glass was chosen for her stage name.
